MORE than a hundred antique guns and a rare medal from the battle of Waterloo are among the lots at Stroud Auctions.

The Waterloo medal - found by an eagle-eyed Stroud Auctions valuer among a box of miscellaneous coins - was awarded to Sergeant John Sutherland of the 1st Battalion 71st Regiment Foot (Highland Light Infantry).

It is being sold together with an unnamed For Courage, Loyalty and Good Conduct medal, which is presented for 20 years' service with the regiment.

There is a guide price of £600-1,000.

Stroud Auctions' saleroom manager and weapons expert Stuart Maule says the Harris collection is being sold commission-free on behalf of a cancer charity.

"We always sell items free of commission if the proceeds are going to charity," he said.

The two-day auction will be on August 9 and 10, followed by another weapons and militaria auction in November, when the closing date for entries will be October 22.

The auction starts at 10am on both days, viewing is on Tuesday, August 8 (10am-7pm) and from 9am on sale days.

Other medals going under the hammer in this specialist section include a 1794 Frances II Holy Roman Emperor commemorative token for visiting the battle lines in the Netherlands, together with a bronze medal coin commemorating George Canning, and two medal coins commemorating the capture of Portobello.

Among the guns and weapons being sold is the collection of Gerald Harris.

The hundred-plus lots include large bore guns, pepperbox pistols, blunderbuss, coaching guns and alarm guns - most by well-known makers.
