WITH additional volunteers joining the group, more frequent speed checks are being carried out in Dursley.

Following a successful induction event at the end of May, a number of extra people are now giving up their time to work with Dursley’s community speedwatch group.

The number of patrols now being carried out by the group has increased as a result.

Last month, in conjunction with Dursley neighbourhood policing team, the group monitored drivers’ speeds in Uley Road and Woodmancote – two priority areas identified by the Speedwatch group.

Further patrols have been organised throughout summer with police special constables joining some of them to allow speeding tickets.

Dursley town councillor Matt Nicholson, chairman of the group, said: "The speedwatch patrols are important because they provide a visible reminder to motorists that speeding is not socially acceptable.

“Over the coming weeks the group will be accompanied by special constables at some of the patrols which will allow us, if necessary, to issue speeding tickets as a further deterrent."

On Saturday the group was joined by Geoff Bevan, the chief observer of Bristol Advanced Motorists to see its work first-hand.
