A SERIES of crashes on the M5 have caused heavy delays through Stroud district.

One lane was blocked and between J13 (Stroud) and J12 (Quedgeley/Hardwicke) due to a serious accident involving a car hitting the central reservation barrier, with another collision close by.

A boat was reportedly in the road blocking one lane.

Highways crews were on the scene to clean up spilled oil and repair barrier damage.

The roads have been cleared and the M5 is open again.

Meanwhile where the M5 meets the A4135 near Cambridge there was another accident, and another close to Stinchcombe.

Further delays have been caused by a lorry colliding with a car near Junction 14 and 15.

The lorry overturned and spilled diesel on the carriageway, fortunately no one was injured.

One lane is still closed along the M5 between Junction 14 and 15 southbound which is expected to reopen tonight.

There are further delays throughout the area in places such as Nailsworth due to traffic for the British Festival of Eventing at Gatcombe and Forest Green Rovers versus Barnet.
