STRATFORD Park in Stroud has been rated as one of the best parks in the world by an international award scheme for the 14th year in a row.

The rating, from the International Green Flag Award Scheme, is a sign to the public that the space boasts the highest possible environmental standards, is beautifully maintained, and has excellent visitor facilities.

Stroud district councillor Simon Pickering (Green, Stroud Slade), says that the park is a “wonderful asset.”

“Its brilliant to receive a Green Flag Award for the 14th year in a row, the park is much-loved and very popular with young and old alike,” he said.

“The park, combined with the museum, leisure centre and outdoor pool is a wonderful asset enjoyed by the whole community of the district, which we should all be very proud of.”

“We know how much quality green spaces, which are easy to get to by foot or cycle, matter to residents and visitors, and this award celebrates the dedication that goes into maintaining Stratford Park to such a high standard.”

Stratford Park is among a record-breaking 1,797 UK parks and green spaces that have received a prestigious Green Flag Award - the mark of a quality park or green space.

International Green Flag Award scheme manager Paul Todd said: “We are delighted to be celebrating another record-breaking year for the Green Flag Award scheme.

“Each flag is a celebration of the thousands of staff and volunteers who work tirelessly to maintain the high standards demanded by the Green Flag Award.

“The success of the scheme, especially in these challenging times, demonstrates just how much parks matter to people.”

The Green Flag Awards Scheme is run by the environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy.
