TWO friends raised more than £1,000 for a cancer charity by flying high in the sky.
Donna Hodges and Heidi Walker from Stroud took part in a wing walk and raised £1,350 for Cancer Research UK.
They were strapped to the top of biplanes and flown through the sky at 150mph on August 2.
Heidi said: “We've done it and it was amazing! We just want to thank everyone who sponsored us.”
A terrifying thought to some people, Heidi said that you get used to it once you’re up there, she said: “After the initial terror, it was just like I was flying without the plane.
“We were positioned top front so you can only really see a bit of the wing and the propeller if you look down.
“We were told if we held on the pilots would be very kind and gentle so we kept our arms up!! And reached a top speed of 145 on one of the dives!”
The motivation to do the wing walk was very personal to both of them, Heidi said: “Both of our families have been affected by cancer.
“Losing three of my immediate family members in seven years has been devastating.
“We'd really like to raise money to go towards finding new treatments for cancer.”
You can still donate through their JustGiving page.
