TWO football fans were ejected from Forest Green Rovers’ match against Yeovil Town after throwing flares and a smoke bomb.

Two away supporters, aged 18 and 17 respectively, were ejected by police and stewards at The New Lawn following the break for half time – at which point FGR were trailing 3-2.

Both men will take part in voluntary police interviews in relation to the incident, which occurred shortly before kick-off.

A spokesman for Gloucestershire Police said: “Two flares were set off in the Yeovil Town end during the match at Forest Green Rovers on Saturday.

“The offenders were identified by police and ejected by the stewards at the ground.

“The two males, aged 18 and 17, spoke with police after they were ejected and will take part in voluntary interviews with officers from Avon and Somerset Constabulary."

Forest Green Rovers went on to win the match 4-3 in a close-fought tie which saw the Five Valley’s team earn their first win in the English Football League.

A spokesman for the club said that this behaviour is not tolerated.

“Two Yeovil fans were removed from The New Lawn at half time on Saturday after letting off smoke devices,” they said.

“Both were spotted and clearly identified by our new security camera system and evidence has been passed onto the police for further investigation.

“We do not tolerate this kind of behaviour.”

During the match at FGR at least one smoke bomb along with several flares were reported to have been set off inside the stadium.

A spokesman for Yeovil Town gave a strong warning for supporters caught with flares and smoke bombs.

“The club has been contacted by the police, so any future misdemeanours could result in a fine or harsher penalties from the Football Association,” they said.

“Anyone caught using or being in possession of a flare or smoke bomb – attempting to enter a stadium, lighting it, holding it or throwing it – will be passed over to the authorities and will instantly receive a ban from Huish Park.”
