Stroud & District Football League Charity Cup – Section B

Thornbury Town Reserves.......................1

Minchinhampton FC............................... 4

JOSH BUTTON slammed home a hat-trick for rampant Minchinhampton FC.

Earlier, Minch came flying out of the blocks in this cup match and for the first half-an-hour produced a great footballing performance.

Chances were created, but missed and Riki Noble saw an effort ricochet to safety off the post.

Undeterred Minch pushed on and took a deserved lead when Button ran on to a diagonal ball over the full-back from Rob Walker to fire the ball back across the keeper and into the net.

Soon after Button fired home again with an almost carbon copy goal, with Walker again the provider.

Still well on top, but relaxing their relentless early pressure, Minch were punished with Thornbury counter- attacking and Matt Constable firing home from just inside the post.

The second period started with Minch again on the front-foot, but struggling to turn their dominance into further goals.

The goal however did arrive when a corner was headed away only as far as Jake Williams who headed the ball back into the danger area for Noble to prod home from close range.

Thornbury pushed men forward in search of a way back into the game and Minch were grateful to goalkeeper, Ash Hallett, for a smart full-length save to preserve their two- goal advantage.

With the last kick of the game Minch added a fourth and a hat-trick making goal for Button who fired home from 25-yards to cap a fine individual performance.

Star Men: Josh Button & Ryan Edwards.
