THE new Mitchell and Webb comedy Back, which was filmed in Stroud, is to debut on Channel 4 tonight.
It marks a return to the small screen for the comedy duo, who are best known for their comedy hits Peep Show and That Mitchell and Webb Look.
The team enjoyed filming in the town earlier this year, with a producer describing Stroud as ‘picturesque’.
It was the second time production for the Channel 4 programme had occurred in Stroud, with the pilot episode being filmed in April 2016. TV crews were seen filming the sitcom in High Street, King Street and Bedford Street.
The former Mother Nature shop in Bedford Street was transformed into a temporary funeral directors, while The Swan pub in Union Street was renamed The Forester for the production.
Back is written by Emmy-award winning writer Simon Blackwell (Veep, In The Loop, Peep Show), directed by Ben Palmer (The Inbetweeners Movie) and produced by Kate Daughton (Toast of London).
David Mitchell plays Stephen, whose father, a local legend and pub landlord, has died, so he is set to, finally, take over the pub.
His ‘creative’ mum Ellen and sister Cass have no interest in the family business so now its his chance to shine.
But when the charming Andrew (Robert Webb) turns up out of the blue at his dad’s funeral, Stephen’s plans go awry.
Back will air tonight, Wednesday, at 10pm on Channel 4.
