THE trial of a 29-year-old Stroud woman accused of smashing a glass in her boyfriend's face and badly did not go ahead yesterday because she was unwell.

Jurors were due to be sworn in at Gloucester Crown Court to try Jessica Toledo, of Moseley road, Stroud, on a charge of wounding Christopher Orchard with intent to cause him grievous bodily harm on April 1 this year.

Mr Orchard suffered a deep facial wound which needed stitching and which has left him with problems with his saliva glands.

Joe Maloney, for Toledo, told judge Michael Harington he had been contacted by her mother today to say his client had been unable to sleep for several nights and was hallucinating.

Her mother had taken her to see her GP this morning, he said.

The case was adjourned to await more news from Ms Toledo's mother and Mr Maloney later told the court she had been prescribed medication including Zopiclone and had gone home to take it.

He was awaiting a written certificate from the doctor saying she was unfit for trial at present, he said.

Judge Harington agreed to abandon today's trial and adjourn the case for six weeks for a further medical update.

The case was listed for mention on October 20 and January 29 next year was set as a new trial date.
