Southern League South, West Division

North Leigh............................................ 1

Shortwood United................................... 2

A BRACE from Joe White saw Shortwood come from behind to notch their third win of the season, writes Jim Cunneen.

Earlier, George Seacole handed North Leigh a sixth-minute lead.

Just before the break Jack Freeman made a superb run down the right before laying the ball back to White, who stepped inside his defender, and fired an unstoppable shot into the bottom corner.

Wood defended well and enjoyed good pressure in the second-half opening stages and Alex Kibble seemed to win everything when North Leigh got forward.

New boy Ashley Davies, signed from Tuffley, fired over a low cross just too far in front of the Wood front men.

Will Hawes replaced Davies and with 14 minutes to go, Wood took the lead with a fine goal. Rich Thwaite made a great run down the left and his cross was blocked. Freeman picked up the loose ball and crossed to White. Although Agboola did well to block his first shot, White reacted and took his time before coolly shooting home.

Kibble landed awkwardly and was replaced by Liam Meredith for his first appearance of the season and in the dying seconds Hawes came close to adding a third but his far post header was blocked on the line.

After the match, boss Paul Meredith said: “We gave away a silly goal and need to improve in the first 20 minutes. We were the better side in the second half, kept our shape and everyone did their jobs.”
