CRANHAM, Whiteway and The Camp will be the first villages in the district to get fibre optic broadband.
The new high-speed broadband is part of an initiative by Gigaclear, a partner of the Fastershire Project, to help connect rural areas of the county to fibre optic internet.
The Conservative leader on Stroud District Council, Cllr Nigel Cooper, who lives in Cranham, thinks the change is very good for the area. He said: “Its fantastic, buffering is a thing of the past and films can be downloaded in seconds.
“Heavy users and home workers are delighted.
“Nowadays a good broadband connection is an essential utility, like water or electricity.
“An ultrafast broadband speed now makes Cranham an even more attractive place to live and work.”
Joe Frost, business development director at Gigaclear, said: “We are delighted to be providing a futureproof network to local people, which will improve the quality of their lives for work, entertainment, communications and play!
"We are delighted to be continuing our partnership with Gloucestershire County Council through Phase 2 and look forward to welcoming these new communities to our network.
"There is no doubt that this will continue to be socially and economically transformative for these rural areas.”
