A MOTHER of two from Amberley celebrated her 104th birthday on Friday.

Harmonie Boyce who currently resides at Horsfall House has lived in the Stroud District all her life.

She attended primary school in Nailsworth and later went to art school in Stroud, mostly painting landscapes and portraits which still hang in several family member’s homes.

Harmonie was wed in 1940 at Amberley church and spent most of her married life living in Lamas Park, Minchinhampton, where she brought up her two children Helen, who now lives in Canada, and Rosie.

During World War Two Harmonie and her husband took in evacuees to live with them until it was safe for them to return home.

She was widowed in 1959 and lived independently until her move to Horsfall House in 2013 aged 101.

One of Harmonie’s greatest hobbies was gardening and even at 100 she was still tending to the flowers and shrubs in her garden.

She celebrated her 100th birthday at home with her two children, four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Harmonie was able to remain independent at home for so long due to the help she received from friend and carer Wendy Treadgold, who was there to celebrate her birthday.

Along with gardening, Harmonie’s other great passion was playing Bridge. Even now she can be seen walking around the home and out on day trips with other residents particularly enjoying outings to get ice creams.
