GARDEN enthusiasts in Brimscombe are celebrating after a generous donation from the Bisley Feoffees charity group.
The former Charlea Allotment Gardens have been gifted to the public, allowing the creation of a community green space.
When the allotments ceased around 20 years ago, the owners attempted to sell the land for development.
This upset many people who had come to cherish the open green area and informal play space.
The land was in the process of being examined for village green status when the Bisley Feoffees decided to kindly gift it to the community, saving it from development.
The new owners, Charlea Community Gardens CIC, are hoping to involve the community in a consultation process to decide how the space can be used.
Ideas that have been mentioned include a community orchard, allotments, an informal play area for children.
Charles Bignell, chairman of Charlea Community Gardens CIC: said:"We are delighted to have this chance to create a community garden for local people.
“This is just the beginning and we have a great opportunity to turn this into a valuable space that can be enjoyed by the whole community."
