EARLIER this year the Stroud Local History Society rescued hundreds of negatives from the former office of the SNJ’s sister title the Gloucestershire Gazette in Dursley.

Following a successful summer social event another history group Remembering Rodborough has printed a large number of the photographs relating to the parish.

The pictures date from the 1960s through to the 1990s and provide a fascinating insight into social history.

Some of the images are from schools, sports teams and uniformed organisations while others relate to community events.

They look back on a time when employment provided more than a job but also social inclusivity with firms such as Redler and Daniels having their own sports teams and hosting their social activities.

Remembering Rodborough is holding an exhibition of the photographs on Sunday at the community hall but has kindly provided the SNJ with some of its favourites.

Many of the pictures are undated with very brief labelling but the history society is hoping readers can help identify the people, places and dates.

The Gazette office at Reliance House closed in 2015 when the paper relocated to the SNJ office in Stroud.
