ROADWORKS around Minchinhampton are causing havoc for commuters and residents.

The most major works are currently being undertaken in West End and are affecting High Street, Tetbury Street and Well Hill.

These works carried out by Severn Trent are necessary to repair a damaged sewer.

A Well Hill resident, Elliot Brixton is finding the roadworks extremely disruptive.

“The roadworks first started having a severe impact late on Wednesday with commuters returning from work or the school run to find they had been diverted around the town,” said Elliot.

“It’s been causing havoc each morning and evening.

“There is a surprising amount of traffic through Minchinhampton via this route every day for people travelling towards Tetbury or Stroud.

“As most locals know, the roads through Minchinhampton are extremely narrow and at times the entire town becomes one way traffic, especially in the morning during the school rush.

“People from the area know to approach corners slowly, check the mirrors in place above the corners and to drive slowly due to the blind bends, but these roadworks have made this even more hazardous.

“What is probably the biggest disruption is people driving through the town for the first time, following a sat-nav and having to navigate through toward the Cirencester Road – it’s been causing lots of disruption and I hope the roadworks end soon.”

The work on the sewer is due to be completed next Thursday (October 19) but for now commuters would be advised to stay away from the centre of Minchinhampton.

A spokesman from Severn Trent said: “We’re happy to say we’ve fixed the collapsed sewer pipe and now we’re now looking to resurface the road.

“We’re sorry for any inconvenience caused but it shouldn’t be too much longer before everything gets back to normal.”
