STROUD dentists walked 19km from Eastington to Sapperton for charity on Saturday.

The group of 10 who work for mydentist on Nelson Street have managed to raise £660 for Cancer Research UK.

Having been overwhelmed by the support for their 15km charity walk back in January, the practice decided to increase the distance.

“We raised so much money back in January that we wanted a fresh challenge,” said practice manager, Emma Jellyman.

“Walking 19km isn’t that easy, especially with some hills on the route but everyone did brilliantly and there were very few aches and pains the next day.

“As a practice we have now raised more than £2,000 from our two walks and there is even talk of doing a sponsored skydive next year.”

Mydentist has been a sponsor of Cancer Research UK since April last year and practices all over the country have been getting involved.

“The partnership with Cancer Research is very important to us and everyone wants to get involved,” said Emma.

“Mouth cancer is on the rise in the UK and can be spotted by a dentist through a simple check-up, so by spreading awareness and fundraising we’re also encouraging the nation to book regular check-ups to look after their oral health."
