A DECADE after Bandit music courses first started, organiser Kevin Howlett has praised the hundreds of talented students who have taken part.

The workshops, which take place a number of times a year, give young people from all backgrounds the opportunity to gain experience in musicianship, performance skills and team work.

Kevin Howlett said: “The students have been really fantastic, they just ‘get it’, which makes our job so much easier.”

Throughout the four days, which host from 50 to 70 pupils between the ages of 8 and seventeen, participants form bands, write songs and learn to create video displays for the final concert.

Bandit courses are hosted at Maidenhill School and Tewkesbury School, before the talented youngsters perform to 200 people at prestigious venues.

Kevin believes that the long-running courses have built a good grounding in the community, helped to set up young bands and generally guide young musicians from local secondary and primary schools.

“Each year the workshop grows with expectation, and they’re just getting better and better,” he said. “Future plans are very positive and numbers are increasing every year.”
