POLICE in Gloucestershire are continuing to investigate a theft of a cash machine in Nailsworth.

At about 4.45am on Tuesday, November 21, members of the public reported hearing an explosion at the Co-op store in Old Market, Nailsworth.

Officers attended and found that offenders had smashed a window and police suspect that gas was ignited to force open the cash machine which was in a wall inside the property.

There was a large amount of cash stolen but there were no reported injuries.

A silver coloured car was seen leaving the area in the direction of Stroud.

Investigating officers are considering similarities between this and previous incidents to establish if there is any link between them.

Police would like to hear from anyone who was in the area at around the time of this incident or has any information which might help the investigation.

People are being advised to remain vigilant and if they see any suspicious activity around cashpoints to report them to police.

Local Sergeant Liz Lovell also stressed the importance of safety for anyone who comes across a similar scene in future:

"This method has been used elsewhere in the county recently and I would just urge any witnesses to something like this to keep their distance, even once an explosion has happened.

“If making observations please ensure you are at a clear and safe location. Do not allow anyone else to enter close to the area unless they are trained officers."

Anyone with information about the Nailsworth theft is asked to call Gloucestershire Constabulary on 101, or email 101@gloucestershire.police.uk, quoting incidents 48 of 21/11.
