STROUD District Foodbank has received a generous donation from a volunteer group.

Transition Stroud presented a £220 cheque to the Foodbank, which will be the first payment from a planned £2,000 donation.

Sue Beattie, the manager of Stroud District Foodbank was delighted with contribution.

She said: “This funding will help give our clients a better Christmas and will cover our running costs.

“It’s nice to know we have the support of all the Stroud district communities.”

The funds are being made through the sale of the Seasons of Sustenance cookbook, a 44 page booklet providing nutritious, good value and easy to make recipes.

Erik Wilkinson, from Transition Stroud believes donations to the Foodbank will create a more tight-knit community.

“One of our aims is to develop a supportive, sharing and resilient community,” said Erik.

“The regular inserts in the cookbook informing on the work of the Foodbank - and the £2000 that will be raised helps achieve this aim. In addition the recipes are both delicious and healthy.”

Copies of the cookbook cost £5 and can be obtained directly from Stroud District Foodbank (office@strouddistrictfoodbank.org.uk) or through local distributers Vestry Café, Uley; Uley Stores; the Green Shop Bisley; Bank Café, Dursley, the Yellow Lighted Bookshop, Nailsworth and Stroud Bookshop.
