MOST UK homeowners do not think the Government can make it easier for people to buy a property in the next two years, a new survey has revealed.

The research, by lender Market Financial Solutions, looked at what people who bought a home in the past 10 years think is important in terms of getting ahead in the property market.

Respondents to the survey rated flexibility as being important and not being limited to a particular locations, as well as being able to offer above the asking price and not putting in an offer that is too low.

It found that having a very clear idea of a budget is the top factor, followed by access to the required finance, not being in a chain, and then acting fast with an offer upon finding the right home.

In total, 80 per cent said they do not feel the Government can make buying a home easier.

Paresh Raja, chief executive officer of MFS said many do not have faith in the Government’s moves to get more people on the housing ladder.

He said: “The research provides valuable insight for those looking to get ahead in this marketplace.”

He added: “People are clearly not confident in the Government’s current approach to home ownership.

“It is vital that people seeking to get onto or move up the property ladder have immediate access to the funds they need to complete the purchase if they are to secure their ideal home.”
