Homes in Stroud were without mains water last night.

Severn Trent Water was investigating what it described as an equipment failure.

It said the problem may have left some households and businesses without water, or with low pressure.

Workers were trying to fix the equipment, and the firm reported it fixed at 1.15pm today (Sunday).

Today one of our readers reported what appeared to be a burst water pipe up on Folly Lane, near Cutler Road.

Debbie Blouet said: "Water has been coming out since yesterday. There are police 'slow signs' and ice warnings. Lots of salt has been put down."

Gemma Bensaid said: "We're in Painswick and the water is very slow and brown."

Louisa Ann Dingley said there was low pressure and cloudy water in Frampton Mansell.

Paul Tanner reported the water in Whiteshill being "very cloudy".

Yesterday a spokesman for Severn Trent said: "We know how difficult it is to have no water, especially at this time of day, and we’re sorry for the inconvenience this may be causing.

"Again we’d like to apologise for any disruption this may cause."

Customers last night confirmed there was no water in Randwick, Paganhill or Barrowfield Road, Stroud. There was only low pressure in Ruscombe.

People in Tewkesbury were left without water on Friday and into Saturday when a mains burst in the area.

Last night Severn Trent tweeted: "Confident of all customers in Tewkesbury and Stroud being back on supply around midnight.

"Profuse apologies to all customers affected.

"Our first priority is absolutely customer restoration and we have 350 colleagues working round the clock to achieve."

There were long queues at a local supermarket as people waited to pick up free bottled water.

Severn Trent says customers without water for more than 15 hours as a result of the burst main in Tewkesbury will be compensated.
