A PEDESTRIAN has been hit by a car on Stratford Road near Stroud's Tesco superstore, and the road has been closed by police.
It is understood that the man, believed to be in his 50s, was hit by a car near the supermarket roundabout at around 5.30pm.
Witnesses say that at least seven or eight emergency vehicles responded to the accident.
The man's injuries were initially described as 'very serious'.
"This is a road traffic collision between a car and a pedestrian," said a police spokesperson.
"The accident is very serious, and the road has been closed, it is likely to stay closed for a few hours while our collision investigation team are at the scene."
The road closure has caused significant traffic problems around Stroud this evening, and commuters are being warned of big delays throughout the town.
