RODDA Thomas, the landlord of the Crown & Sceptre in Stroud, has been in touch to see if anyone can help to uncover the mystery of an old photograph that customer brought into the pub.
The photo is believed to have been taken sometime at the beginning of the last century and shows a wonderful old charabanc, an early form of bus used typically for pleasure trips, with some rather dapper passengers posing in front of the popular Horns Road public house.
The Crown in Sceptre is still a popular public house in Horns Road, nearly 100 years later
Landlord Rodda Thomas explained: "A while ago, a customer brought in this old photo of a charabanc outside the Crown and Sceptre," he said.
"All the men in the photo are wearing caps and buttonholes, and we think the only lady in the picture could be the pub landlady at the time.
"We wondered if it might be something to do with Cheltenham Races.
"Perhaps it could be pre-WW1 as there were not many men around after 1918, the bus registration indicates that it was certainly some time between 1910 and 1930, " he said.
Now framed and on display in the pub, customers are invited to help to shed some light on the people in the picture and where they may have been off to.
The Crown and Sceptre is on Horns Road, Stroud, GL5 1EG for more information call Rodda on 01453 762 588 or email r.thomas930@btinternet.com
