A UNIVERSITY technical college in Berkeley and Southmead Hospital’s Brunel Building are in the running for prestigious awards recognising exemplary buildings across the region.

SGS Berkeley Green and the Brunel Building are among 47 building projects from the South West to be shortlisted for the 2018 RICS South West Awards, which recognise build projects that are positively contributing to the wider community.

THE SGS Berkeley Green UTC, delivered by Mott MacDonald, is nominated for the Community Benefit and Regeneration categories, with the shortlist noting it offers a unique opportunity to positively impact young people’s career choices.

Meanwhile Bristol’s 800 bed Brunel Building, replacing the old Southmead and Frenchay hospitals is shortlisted for the Community Benefit and Infrastructure categories.

The main hospital building opened in 2014 with the new main entrance, patient bedrooms, clinical facilities, A&E department and heli-pad, with phase 2, including car parking and landscaping, completed in July 2016.

James Wakeham, chairman of the RICS Awards, South West judging panel, said: “Despite the uncertainty in the current climate, our region’s property professionals continue to deliver exemplary, and in many cases, world-class built projects that are having a profoundly positive impact on our cities and towns.

“I am delighted to see so many of these built initiatives on this year’s shortlist for the 2018 RICS Awards, South West. The exceptional talent and skills of the teams and surveyors behind these schemes is nothing short of remarkable, and I wish them all the best of luck in gaining the recognition they deserve for ensuring their local communities remain fantastic places to live, work, and visit.”

The 2018 RICS Awards, South West take place on Thursday, May 17 at the Bristol Marriott Hotel.
