A YOUNG sailor from Frampton-on-Severn has won the incredible experience of being mentored by members of the British team.

Ed Baker, 14, who is a member of Frampton-on-Severn Sailing Club, is one of three youngsters to win the special prize.

The lucky winners will be treated to a one in a lifetime opportunity of being mentored by the British Sailing Team, as well as receiving a £500 Musto voucher for equipment.

Ed was delighted to win the prize which was announced at the Royal Yachting Association (RYA) Dinghy Show earlier this month.

“When I heard that I would be meeting a member of the British Sailing Team I was blown away, said Ed.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for me and I very much look forward to the experience. I am very lucky!”

Musto set high criteria for the would-be winners based on British Young Sailors core values.

Each squad coach was asked to recommend their potential winner, before representatives from both Musto and the RYA would select their final three.

To be considered, the young sailors needed to be passionately ambitious, act on their curiosity, show clear courage and determination, take ownership of themselves and display a high level of respect and integrity; both on shore and in the water.

The other two winners were David Bromilow, 12, from West Kirby and Catrin Williams, 14, from Felinheil.

All three joined newly appointed Racing Director at the RYA, Volvo Ocean race winner and long-serving Musto ambassador, Ian Walker MBE on stage at the Dinghy Show for the announcement.

He commented: “This is an excellent opportunity for young sailors to be recognised for their hard work, and to benefit from the mentorship of the sailors they aspire to be.”
