AN exhibition in Stroud will celebrate ‘the female’ through flowers, fruits and figures.

Karen Green, a Stroud-based artist, has been working for the past year on a collection of art pieces focusing on the ‘female’ which will be exhibited at the Lansdown Hall from April 17.

Many of her botanical pieces refer to the taboos placed on the natural menstrual cycle, and seek to empower this natural and unifying gift upon the female sex.

The paintings hope to promote open and positive conversations around a topic normally associated with secrecy and disgust in a world where women, even on our own doorstep, are unable to afford or have no access to sanitary products.

In contrary style, Karen’s figurative oil paintings explore inspirational women, making references to representations of women in history, art, religion and mythology.

‘Venus’ will be exhibited at The Lansdown Gallery in Stroud from Tuesday, April 17 until Sunday April 22, 10:30am- 5:30pm. Come and enjoy a glass of wine and meet the artist on the Opening Night, Monday 16th April, 7-9pm.

There will be a collection basket for sanitary products in the gallery in aid of The Homeless Period Gloucestershire. Please bring along any unwanted pads, towels, tampons etc to donate.
