STROUD District Council’s tourism team is celebrating after winning Best Local Film at the Stroud Community TV annual awards ceremony.

More than 40 short films or clips were shown at the event which was held at the Lansdown Hall and Gallery on Saturday, March 17, to an audience of around 120 people.

Stroud District Council commissioned award winning local filmmaker Nick Turner to make its film which was edited by Bristol-based Five Films.

Nick used drones to shoot aerial footage, and time lapse to showcase the very best of the district.

The three-minute long film features some of the area’s best loved attractions including Stroud Farmers’ Market, Berkeley Castle, and the Stroudwater Canal, as well as many of the festivals that add to the district’s heritage including the Randwick Wap, Art Couture Painswick and the Stroud Fringe Festival.

The seven categories included Best Community Event Film, Best Stroud Music Film and Best Local Business Film.

To qualify for entry each film had to have a link to Stroud, and have been uploaded to the Stroud Community TV website during 2017.

Presenters included Stroud MP David Drew and BBC Radio Gloucestershire presenter Faye Hatcher.

Nick Turner was delighted to win best local film.

“Being a local resident, it has been a privilege to produce this promotional film showcasing the highlights of the Stroud district,” said Nick.

It’s great to be enticing visitors to come and experience this beautiful part of the Cotswolds. There really is so much to explore.”

Nick won an Oscat mug featuring Stroud Community TV’s iconic logo of an orange cat, and Shirley took away a certificate.

Stroud District Councillor Steve Robinson, who presented the Best Community Event Film award, commented: “While we aim to encourage visitors to enjoy the district from a tourism perspective, we also want to show people this is a great place to live, work and play.

“We hope the film will be shared by estate agents, recruitment agencies and big employers in the area”.
