Painswick........................................ 5 Norton............................................ 8

PAINSWICK fell short in their final league game, finishing third in Gloucester Division Three.

In a tight game, Painswick failed to take the few chances that came their way. Playing uphill they did well to keep Norton to a single penalty in the first-half.

Excellent defence held a strong start from the visitors. As the half progressed Painswick came more into the game and were looking well set to win the game at half-time.

However, a mixture of sound defence from Norton and over eagerness from Painswick left the second-half scoreless until with 10 minutes left the dangerous Norton left broke through several tackles and although caught by Neil Churchill in the home 22 managed to recycle the ball for the visitors to move the ball wide out to score an unconverted try.

Painswick fought back gamely and after a series of penalties James Harber scored scored a try in the corner with the final play of the game.

Both sides deserved credit for a hard fought and exciting game with Norton showing a little more experience and composure to earn them a win that secures them the runners-up spot.
