A Gloucestershire-based filmmaker is combining her passion for flight with her craft to produce a coming-of-age drama this summer.
Joanna Beard, whose family has four generations of glider pilots, is writing and directing Airborne, which stars a young female pilot and draws on Joanna’s own personal story.
Filming is set to begin in May at Bristol & Gloucestershire Gliding Club near Stroud.
Joanna’s been producing and directing drama short films since 2007, and is now studying TV and film in Falmouth - she’ll submit Airborne as her final thesis.
The film is a collaborative effort with UK Junior Gliding, the British Gliding Association and Women Glide in the hope of getting more women involved in a sport Joanna describes as “male-dominated”.
