THE rapid rhythms and dazzling footwork of authentic Andalucían flamenco are set to come to Stroud next week

Virtuoso flamenco dancer, Felipe de Algeciras, known for his highly charismatic style, will give a rare UK performance at the Star Anise Arts Café next Friday.

Felipe, who started dancing as a teenager in Andalucía, has performed at Sadlers Wells, the House of Commons, and with the English National Opera.

In the course of his long career in the UK, Felipe had the honour of dancing for Diana Princess of Wales and Princess Margaret.

In 2002 Felipe founded his own company Alma Flamenca, with which he toured successfully in the UK and all Europe, performing in prestigious theatres such as the Royal Opera House, where he shared the stage with El Cigala.

His fabulous footwork can also be heard on the soundtrack to the film, “The Mask of Zorro”, starring Antonio Banderas and Catherine Zeta Jones.

Based in Algeciras in southern Spain, Felipe now has his own dance school.

He teaches flamenco all over Europe, including in London Exeter, Glasgow, Belfast, Dublin, Amsterdam and Copenhagen.

Felipe’s performance, on Friday 27 April at 9.00pm - doors open at 7.30pm - is not to be missed by anyone who loves dance, guitar music and the distinctive vibe of Southern Spain.

The performance at the Star Anise is in aid of the Tribe of Doris, an annual community festival of music, dance, drumming and ceremony around the world, and a favourite festival for Felipe.

Felipe is also teaching workshops in flamenco dance on Friday 27 April at 6.00pm for beginners, and 7.00pm for intermediate students.
