Children were turned away from Eastcombe primary school this morning after a suspected break-in.

The school has remained closed after burglars stole money from the office and damaged property.

Police are still at the scene and headteacher Claire Jones hopes their investigation will be complete so the school can re-open tomorrow.

Mrs Jones thanked parents and the local community for their support.

“Everyone has been so accommodating and helpful - especially with last minute childcare,” she said.

When staff arrived at the school this morning there was evidence that a door had been forced and power to the external lights had been cut.

The school notified parents of the closure first thing this morning which was due to toilets being within the crime scene.

Police believe that thieves broke into the school sometime between 6pm yesterday and 8.10am this morning.

Police ask that anyone with more information call 101 quoting incident number 69 of April 18.
