Seventy years since the founding of the National Health Service will be celebrated in Lansdown Hall and Bank Gardens this July.

Stroud Against the Cuts, the local branch of the Keep Our NHS Public campaign group, is holding a day of talks, stalls, workshops, film and entertainment on Saturday, July 7 to remember the creation of Britain’s health service on July 5 1948.

They’ll be collecting money “to help our campaigns to defend the NHS”.

Stroud Against Cuts regularly campaigns against cuts and privatisation of the NHS.

For instance during February they joined in a rally in Cheltenham against what they saw as ‘back-door privatisation’ of Gloucestershire NHS, also attended by Labour MP David Drew and unions.

They’re also organising a coach trip on June 30 to join in a national demonstration.
