Cainscross Road in Stroud is set to be closed for at least two more hours as police continue to investigate an incident involving an elderly cyclist this morning.

Police shut the road indefinitely after a cyclist in her 80s was seriously injured after a collision.

They are now appealing for witnesses, asking that anyone who sees a grey 4 x 4 with damage to the front end should contact police immediately.

Bus services in and around Stroud have been subject to major delays, with one service from Gloucester cancelled.

Stagecoach West has been told by police that Cainscross Road will be closed for a minimum of a further two hours.

Stroud was built up with traffic this morning - at one point it backed up all the way to Stonehouse.

School runs were also hit, with coaches unable to park on Cainscross to drop off Marling and Stroud High students.

In a statement, Stroud High School’s headteacher Mark McShane thanked police and bus companies for helping get students to school.

“Staff and students have followed advice by the police and we had a 10 minute delay to the beginning of lessons in order to enable students to get into school. We are very grateful to the police and all of the bus companies who have worked together to ensure that everyone has been able to arrive at school safely,” said Mr McShane
