After the hottest London Marathon in history, residents of Stroud battled to raise money for their chosen charities.

A massive 750,000 spectators cheered on the runners who battled the 24-degree Celsius temperatures to complete the 26.2 mile course.

After the marathon people across the Five Valleys took to Facebook in celebration of their achievements.

One resident, Mike Dorey raised over £5000 for Children with Cancer UK thanks to a generous list of donors.

Another participant in the London Marathon chose to raise money for the British Lung Foundation raising over £2400.

Damian Lai, said: “I just want to say thank you for all the kind wishes and support, I finished in 4hrs 24 mins 57 secs.”

I did the very best I could, and I am very proud to have finished strong in these hot conditions.”

Thanks to everyone who has helped me raise a fantastic amount for the British Lung Foundation, I am overwhelmed.”

For many in the Stroud district this was not their first time participating in the marathon.

Darren Lewington, who raised over £2000 for Gloucestershire Airport based charity fly2help took to the track despite boiling conditions.

Darren said: “This was my third London and, although it was my slowest, the atmosphere was absolutely incredible all the way round the course.”
