A COMMUNITY pub held it's third annual chilli cook-off last Sunday.

Landlord Rodda Thomas invited seven local chefs and foodies to challenge for this years cup at The Crown & Sceptre, which held the cook-off in the infamous Gurt Yert.

Local chefs included, Wes Birch from Dinner at 6, Shane McBagley of Bison Kitchen as well as Shiraz Akko, last years winner amongst others.

According to the panel of judges the standard of the chillies this year was outstanding.

Rodda said: "I myself tried several and can only agree, this years was the biggest cook-off yet."

After the panels decision, Lawrence Kapoor came third, Hunter's chilli finished second and Shane McBagley was this years winner.

The public was then invited to try the chillies for a donation with all proceeds going towards Humans 4 Humanity, the refugee centre on the island of Lesbos, founded and run by Stroud’s own Leah Wild.

Together food enthusiasts raised a total of £328 for the refugee centre.

The cook-off was attended by hundreds of people who watched the cooking while being entertained by Americana music acts from the area.

These included Texas Tic Fever, The Woo Town Hillbillies and the Shaggy Dog Raconteurs.

"Thanks must be said to all the chefs, musicians and Will Templeman of Cheltenham Yurt Hire, who all contributed to another memorable event," added Rodda.
