A piece of Nailsworth history goes on sale this Saturday.

A Nailsworth town road sign is up for auction when the town’s council holds their annual open meeting on April 28 from 10am till 1pm.

The previous sign prompted a bidding war when it was auctioned - it now has a new home in France, according to a Nailsworth Town Council spokesperson.

It sold for £570; all profits from this sale will go to a Nailsworth charity.

As well as gavel-based rivalry, the open meeting, which takes place in a marquee in the town square near Mortimer gardens, offers residents the chance to find out what the council has planned for the next year.

The tent will also be nestled with stands showcasing the town’s clubs and groups.

Nailsworth’s mayor Jonathan Duckworth said: “This is a great opportunity for the people of Nailsworth to see what goes on in their town and to talk to their Town Council.

“We’ve chosen this location because it is accessible for everyone, and very visible!”

And if all that bidding gets you hungry, the open meeting coincides with the monthly Nailsworth Farmers’ Market.
