A craft shop in Nailsworth is celebrating yarn along with other independent retailers across the country this weekend.

Mother Goose will be offering free patterns, an all day knit-and-natter, lucky dip discounts and raffle prizes along with over 200 other British stores to celebrate Yarn Shop Day on May 12, run by Let’s Knit magazine.

Vintage yarn from the 1950s and 1960s will also be on sale after a huge stash was rescued from the attic of a grandmother.

Mother Goose has been supplying Nailsworth with yarn and other craft supplies for eight years now, with Michael Chivers of Green Spirt taking over the business in 2016.

It stocks kits and supplies for knitting, crochet, papercraft and felting, and a range of wooden peg dolls, specialising in quality natural fibres and beautiful British wool.

“The day is a great opportunity to celebrate and encourage support for independent craft shops,” said Tilly Hedford, a keen crafter who stayed on as manager of Mother Goose when Michael took over.

Mother Goose will be extending its discounts until the end of Nailsworth Festival (May 19 to May 27).
