A HISTORIC garden named after a fashion trend for the flamboyant and sensual will celebrate a 20th anniversary tomorrow.

Amazingly, it is now twenty years since the maze at the Painswick Rococo Gardens was opened, and so staff will welcome back retired TV personality Johnny Ball, who opened the maze back in May 1988.

He will be planting a tree to mark the anniversary during a small ceremony alongside friends of the garden.

Garden director, Dominic Hamilton, said: "Our maze is unusual in having three centres and a vantage point from which parents can direct intrepid explorers.

"It was an inspired idea and has been delighting visitors ever since it opened, we're thrilled to have Johnny Ball and his wife back with us to mark its 20th birthday."

Located just outside the core of the garden, the maze was designed by then village resident and maze lover, professor Angela Newing.

Painswick Rococo Garden is open daily between January 10 and October 31 from 10.30am until 5pm.
