A development of 400 new homes near Stonehouse has been given the go-ahead by planners in Stroud, with work on the first phase of development starting this summer.
The new Great Oldbury community is being built by developers Barratt Homes and David Wilson Homes after Stroud District Council signed off on the last parts of the planning application on Friday, June 8.

Developers claim the build, which is on 98 hectares to the west of Stonehouse and Stroud, will support 1,200 new jobs, filled “mostly by local people”, according to a press release from Barratt Homes.
“This is great for people wishing to settle in this sought-after area,” said Barratt Homes sales director Andrea Pilgrim.
“We think very carefully before deciding where to build new properties - and we know demand here is very high. We’re thrilled to be playing our part in bringing new homes to people in Stonehouse.”

Aside from the homes, the developers plan to build a mixed use local centre, primary school and employment space.
“Great Oldbury has been created with a whole host of lifestyles in mind - from sole occupants and couples to growing families.
This is very important to us. We know there is a need for new and accessible housing in this region, and our home designers have done us proud here.”
Out of the total 400 homes being built, 121 will be affordable housing.
