FABULOUS illustrations by Stroud artist Imogen Harvey-Lewis will be unveiled outside the new John Lewis store currently being created in Cheltenham High Street.

Ms Harvey-Lewis, who is famous for her unique and imaginative style, was commissioned to produce the 2.5m x 1.8m prints to brighten the hoardings during building on the shop, which opens on October 18 and is expected to attract shoppers from across Gloucestershire.

The prints include caricatures of the new branch manager, Martin Bundy, as well as sketches of the personal styling and home design services that will be available.

Imogen, who has lived in Gloucestershire for 22 years, said: “This has been a fantastic opportunity to play a role in welcoming John Lewis to Cheltenham.

"It’s also been an interesting way to exhibit my work – bringing the art gallery to the High Street.

"There is a genuine buzz about John Lewis opening, and it has been a privilege to help build that excitement with my own contemporary twist as the opening approaches.”

Mr Bundy said: “I love Imogen’s illustrations. Hoardings are often dull, but she has made ours fun. I hope people enjoy looking at them and feel they brighten the High Street.”

Niki Whitfield, arts coordinator who manages many projects across the local region, said: “It’s great that John Lewis has chosen to collaborate with people living and working in the area.

"This is such an innovative and interesting way to communicate with the public, bringing a welcome splash of colour to the High Street.”

The hoardings are due to be unveiled later this week.
