A collection inspired by the beauty in the wear and tear of garments has earned a former Stroud College student as prestigious fashion award.

Former SGS learner Rebecca Wilson, who now studies at Arts University Bournemouth, won the Christopher Bailey Gold Award, along with £10,000, at Graduate Fashion Week.

Named after the first winner in 1992, Christopher Bailey, Rebecca received the award for her menswear, womenswear and childrenswear collection, which also earned the university £2,000.

The judges said Rebecca’s collection demonstrated an exceptional ability in its creative process, design, cut and craftsmanship, as well as the colours and fabrics used.

“Fantastic! I was really impressed, an incredibly forceful collection," said Diane Von Furstenberg, one of the judges.

Speaking of her surprise, Rebecca said: “I feel ecstatic, I can’t believe it, what an incredible award to win.

“My collection is inspired by Victorian working class clothing and Victorian family portraits looking at the beauty in the wear and tear of garments.”
