AN ELDERLY woman from Stroud passed away after inhaling scrambled egg, an inquest heard yesterday.
Roma Barker was 86 years old when she died on January 23 this year.
The court heard that Mrs Barker was a patient at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital when she got into difficulty eating her lunch.
Senior coroner Katy Skerrett told the court what happened.
"She started to cough and collapsed, a doctor gave her back slaps and then used suction but she was pronounced dead at 1.05pm," she said.
Mrs Barker was suffering from a chest infection at the time.
"She had no history of eating problems," the coroner added.
Ms Skerrett concluded that Mrs Barker had died of asphyxia by food and that it was accidental.
