Stonehouse Gardening Club out and about in Sheepscombe
THE JUNE 6, meeting of the club was a visit to Trench Hill, deep in the South Cotswolds.
This private garden is a very well hidden gem overlooking Sheepscombe and Cranham villages.
The views are second to none and the peace and stillness on this warm clear evening were inspiring.
Warmly welcomed by owners Celia and David Hargrave, club members wandered along bark paths through woodland, across lawns leading to a fruit garden and down to ponds and a small lake.
As they explored herbaceous borders and admired vegetable beds, members were constantly delighted by quirky wooden statues, a dragon here, a friendly snail or pixie toadstool there, plus stain glass panels set amongst the trees.
Our hosts then provided delicious cake, tea and coffee, with proceeds to charity.
A beautiful relaxing evening.
The next meeting of the club is also an evening visit, this time to the National Trust Westbury Water Gardens for a guided tour on July 4.
