A POLICE officer has been injured while attempting to arrest a man in Stroud this afternoon.

Police were called to a report of an assault at Merrywalks bus station at just before 12.45pm, and it is believed that the officer was injured while making an arrest attempt.

A police spokesperson said: "During an arrest attempt in Parliament Street a police car was damaged and a male officer was injured.

"His injuries not believed to be serious and he is being taken to hospital to be assessed."

A witness to the incident said that there appeared that a lorry had tried to prevent another car from purposefully running over the policeman.

"There is a damaged mini in the middle of the road and a lorry appears to have crashed into it attempting to block its path."

The police spokesperson confirmed that two male youths have been arrested in connection with the incident and remain in custody at this time.

Road closures are in place while enquiries continue.

Gloucestershire police are asking that anyone with information should call 101 and quote incident 230 of 26 June.
