THREE men with a combined aged of 226 have walked 50 kilometres to raise money for charity.

Peter Daniels, John Schmolle and Stephen Court walked along the Cotswold Way from Wotton under Edge to Cheltenham to raise funds for autistic adult residents at Stroud Court Community Trust.

Setting off at 7am on Saturday, June 30 the team walked in 30 degree heat on a route which featured local landmarks Coaley Peak, Painswick Church and Cooper’s Hill.

They arrived at the finish line, The Norwood Arms in Cheltenham, at 7.30pm for a well-earned drink.

Chris Atkins, Executive Director of Stroud Court said: “We are hugely grateful to Peter, John and Stephen for their amazing efforts. What an incredible achievement for a team who are all over seventy years of age.

“Autistic people can struggle with everyday activities which we take for granted and we are incredibly grateful to Peter, John and Stephen for raising awareness of Stroud Court.”

Stroud Court supports thirty three autistic adults. Most have complex health needs, sensory impairments and seizure disorders.

Helen Kay, Fundraising Manager at Stroud Court, said: “Spending restrictions over the past decade have made it increasingly difficult for our charity to continue the many activities and programmes enjoyed by residents.

“With the help of Peter, John and Stephen we will be able to provide valuable and necessary resources to make sure the autistic residents can continue to enjoy the kind of life we all take for granted – a life without fear and anxiety, living and working with people who care and understand them, their aspirations and their needs. “

Peter has raised over £500 but is still looking for people to donate to help him reach his £1,000 target.
