A BLONDE hedgehog was rescued from scorching conditions and is now being cared for at hospital.

The unusual blonde hoglet was found by staff at the Help a Hedgehog Hospital in King's Stanley whilst she was wandering alone in a garden.

A spokesperson from the hedgehog hospital said: "She was very lucky to be found, as in this hot summer weather, she could have died from dehydration."

Blonde hedgehogs are not albinos, but their light colour is caused by a recessive gene which means they lack melanin pigment.

However, Blondie the hedgehog is in good health and is feeding well on the special milk used for hoglets.

"We hope Blondie can be reared and release in the future," the hospital spokesperson added.

"Please continue to put out fresh water and dry cat biscuit as worms will stay underground in dry weather."
