Stroud has the country’s biggest football fans according to a recent survey.
Money spent in the town’s pubs increased by 1154 per cent during England’s recent victory over Sweden in the quarter-final of the World Cup.
This is compared to 34 per cent in London, where there was the second biggest increase.
Pubs in Stroud were 1378 per cent busier on Saturday, July 7 comparted to a national average of just 17 per cent.
The survey was carried out by Worldpay. Steve Denton Executive Vice President, UK and Europe said: “It’s been a huge week for bars and bookmakers alike, with England winning both on and off the field.
“We’ve been surrounded by scenes of jubilant Brits celebrating historic wins against Colombia and Sweden.”
Tonight (Wednesday, July 11) England take on Croatia in their first World Cup semi-final since 1990.
“For fans looking to watch the game from their local, I would advise arriving early – particularly if you live in Stroud,” added Steve.
