How did canal engineers get around the problem of Stroud's low water supply?
As part of this year's Stroud Festival of Nature, the Cotswold Canals Trust is holding an open day at Gough's Orchard Lock to explain exactly that.
You can hear the story of the siphon feed from experts on Saturday, July 21 during two slots: from 10.30am to 12.30pm and 2pm to 4pm.
Volunteers from the Trust will be situated in three locations - the millpond, a siphon outlet on the canal and the River Frome, which is a monitoring site.

There is no need to book, just turn up. Parking is available at Brimscombe Port, which is about 2.5 miles from Stroud.
For more information, contact Val Kirby on 07969 789 938 - or pick up a leaflet with a map of where to go from one of the Trust's visitor centres at Wallbridge and Saul Junction.
