A elderly man who had been hit by a car in Stroud town centre yesterday has been discharged from hospital.

Police said the 85-year-old was left with just cuts and bruises after being involved in an accident on the corner of King Street near HSBC.

The car which hit him was a Vauxhall Zafira driven by a woman from Gloucester.

One witness, William Davis from Stroud, described how he saw “the man walk out in front of the car.”

“I saw him collapse and then I heard a thud.”

The man's release comes after officers at the scene feared he may have broken his pelvis.

An off-duty paramedic had helped at the scene before an ambulance arrived.

Police closed the road at Russell Street roundabout.

Anyone who witnessed the incident, who has not been spoken to already by police, should call 101 quoting incident number 229 of July 19.
