A QUICK-THINKING worker helped save an elderly man after a fall.
Paul Cook, who works for Stroud District Council's waste and recycling contractor Ubico, helped the resident at Nailsworth sheltered housing site Concord.
Bob Vosper, 86, was on his way to Concord’s residents’ coffee morning on Wednesday, June 20 when he suffered the fall.
Paul ran into Concord’s communal lounge and instructed a resident to call the site officer. He then took some towels from the kitchen and returned to attend to Bob until the ambulance arrived.
Paul said: “He was bleeding quite heavily and I didn’t want to move him, so I leaned his head against my legs and tried to stem the blood.
“If it was my granddad that fell I’d hope someone would help him.”
Bob suffered a broken cheekbone and cuts to his hands but was allowed home after a short stay in hospital.
The following week Paul returned to Concord to collect the food waste and check on Bob’s progress.
Bob said: “I arrived today on my scooter. I think it’s safer.”
Daniel Jacecko, Ubico’s operations and transport manger, added: “Our front-line staff play a big role in the community and we are very proud that they go above and beyond to help local residents when needed.
“Paul has represented one of our values ‘Do the Right Thing’ in an exceptional way.”
